VDR Core

If you imagine the yaVDR distro being a human body, its heart would most likely be the VDR (core) software package. The VDR core is mainly maintained and extended by its inventor, Klaus Schmidinger. yaVDR 0.2 will use the currently latest VDR developer version 1.7.14 as its "heart". Although many users of VDR are very happy with 1.7.14, the current stable version of VDR is still version 1.6 which was released back in March 2008. Version 1.6 doesn't contain support for HDTV and DVB-S2 cards, that's why it doesn't make sense for us to use it within yaVDR.
The next stable release of VDR will be called 1.8 and although every VDR fan longs for the day it will be announced, experience shows that we can already work very well with the developer releases. New development versions in the 1.7.x codeline are being tested by the VDR community instantly and so it will become obvious quite quickly if they are stable enough to be used.
The first development version of the 1.7 codeline was released by Klaus Schmidinger in April 2008. The current version VDR 1.7.14 was released in March 2010. Every new release is announced by Klaus on the VDR mailing list, but I was missing an overview page where it is possible to quickly lookup all changes between all these VDR developer releases to learn what has happened.
I believe that Klaus' hard work of two years - that resulted in 14 developer releases - is worth of having an own summary, so I have created one:
[UPDATE June 3rd 2012: Added VDR 1.7.28 to table.]

I don't think that they work like the developers of Duke Nukem Forever :-) so it will be released really soon because they have postet it more than once on vdr-portal.de.
nice regards

@aelo: Thanks for sharing the rumours! A version jump to VDR 2.0 would seem appropriate to me, taking into account the support for HDTV.
@Michael: I think it is safe to say that yaVDR 0.2 will be released in June 2010. But don't tell my team colleagues that I have told you that. ;-)

Is there a roadmap as to when 0.2 will be out? Are you going the ubuntu oder the debian approach (when it's out, it's out)?.

Hi,
VDRdevel runs already really good, but there are roumors that the next version will be VDR 2.0 because there will be many new features including a True-Color-OSD.
But currently I'm looking forward to yaVDR 0.2 :-)
nice regards
